he stares at you
but only looks skin deep
he talks to you
like you’re his property
he holds your hand
but just to keep you within reach
he tells you he can do better
because he can’t comprehend the gem that he’s got

he likes you better wearing makeup
while i admire the sparkle in your eyes
he drools at the thought of you in a bikini
while i just want to see you smile
he cares more about what he gets
while i would do anything for you

the only thing i want from you
is for you to believe in yourself
the only thing i’ll take from you
is the joy you bring to my life
the only thing i’ll tell you
is i’m always here to cheer you up

i see your inner beauty
i watch the passion in your eyes
i look past what’s on the surface
’cause i care more what’s in your heart

i can’t get enough of your smile
and i can’t get enough of your laugh
i love when i look in your eyes
i see all that we could be

i picture our first date
the one where i stay up all night hoping
we’ll end up holding hands
and i dream of our first kiss
the same one i’ll feel when we’re dressed in all white
dancing throughout the night
i look forward to all the memories we’ll share together
to the life and laughter we’ll create with one another
that’s all i’ll ever need

my body is here
but i’m already mentally there
to the place where
i’m on your couch
sitting next to the one that i love
i don’t have you yet
that’s why the best is yet to come

i watch the joy in your eyes
as you see everything for the first time
i watch you take your first step
with my hands right by your side

another day begins and fades
you’ve watched the sun rise and fall once again
just to find another day feeling lost within
but one day you’ll wake up to a better life
where the pain of trying fades away

some days the hope in your dreams
is suffocated by the same old routine
the days seem to pass so slow
and you’re unsure of where to go
but one day you’ll wake up to a better life
and the ache of trying has faded away

you’ve sacrificed some things in the short term
to earn it all in the end
so chase your dreams ’til you’re exhausted
then get up and do it again
because one day you’ll wake to a better life
with the pain of trying faded away

you watch him slam the door
as your tears stream to the floor
you look back at a million warning signs
but you desperately want that fairy tale
he’s crushed your hope, stepped on your heart
but he’s the one who lost out

you deserve someone who wants both girls on his lap
who lights the candles twice so each one gets to blow them out
takes a mental picture every time he sees the three of you smile
proud of the life that he has

but you can always rely on me
remember there is so much life to live
and you have so much love left to give
turn up taylor’s fearless and believe that things will change
and if ever you need a sunrise
i’ll be there to brighten your day

because you deserve someone who wants both girls on his lap
kisses their knees every time that they fall
and dreams of the days when they’re tall

but you believe with your whole heart
he’s earned the right to steal your heart
i wish that everyone loved like you
’cause it would make this world a better place

they say that they’re concerned
that they have learned more of life’s lessons
that they have your best interests
saying you need more time to grow up
but when every day could be your last
they need to spend a day in your shoes
because you treasure every moment
and believe that love should guide your life

and they may never understand you
but i support you because i’m a dreamer too
don’t ever let this world harden you
or else you will think the way that they do

you have faith in happy endings
and that’s what makes you unique
i would give everything i have
to live the love that you do

you have me on the phone
trying to play psychologist
telling me i’m not happy
saying i don’t know what i want
but i’m not interested in playing this charade
i’m not one for planning the future
but i’ll tell you what makes my heart beat
and everything that i will be

i will march to the tempo of the music inside me
every step believing in happy endings
and my heart will beat to the pulse of my future love’s heart
and while she’ll hold my hand and my heart
i’ll never stray too far from my friends and family
we’ll strike out to explore the great outdoors
to uncover all the beauty this world holds

so i’m getting off your couch
i’d rather listen to the instincts inside of me
i have too much passion to share
and i’m not content to watch the world pass me by
